Catriona Matheson: Professor of Substance Use

We are delighted to announce that Dr Catriona Matheson has been appointed Professor of Substance Use at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Stirling. Professor Matheson is recognised as a significant contributor to the field of substance use research in Scotland through her work as an independent drugs researcher, trustee and treasurer of the Society for the Study of Addiction, Convenor of the Drugs Research Network Scotland, and previous researcher at the University of Aberdeen.

Professor Matheson has a 0.2 FTE role Stirling, primarily to support the development of substantial, cross-institutional substance use research projects and associated bids. Her research interests include the delivery of care to substance users, testing innovative new approaches, exploring health professional and public opinions about drug treatment strategies, and services to address excess morbidity and mortality among older people who use drugs.
